7th Annual Scientific Meeting

The 7th HKMSS Annual Scientific Meeting was held on 27 Oct 2018 at the Sheraton Hotel, which was our society’s first ever full day ASM. This year, we echoed the 2018 World MS Day theme ‘bringing us closer’, and brought on board Radiologists, Paediatricians, Ophthalmologists and Pathologists, who are all key players in the care for Multiple Sclerosis patients.

The morning symposium began with our local radiologist from Pamela Youde Neterthesole Eastern Hospital, Dr. CY Chu, who spoke on ‘Neuroimaging for Multiple Sclerosis – from Basic to Advances’. Dr. Alvin Ho, our local paediatrician from Queen Mary Hospital, then shared with us ‘Paediatric Demyelinating Diseases and Mimics’. Afterwards, our local ophthalmologist from Hong Kong Eye Hospital, Dr. Carmen Chan, further widened our scope with her talk on ‘Multiple Sclerosis and the Eye’.

During the lunch symposium, Prof. Achim Gass from Germany, enlightened us on ‘The Role of Imaging from Diagnosis to Management of MS’. We then shifted our attention to NMO and MOG antibody related diseases in our afternoon symposium, with Prof. Patrick Waters from Oxford sharing with us his expertise on ‘Antibody Assays in Non-MS Demyelinating Diseases’, and Prof. Ichiro Nakashima from Japan focusing on the ‘Clinical Aspects of MOG-IgG Related Demyelinating Diseases’. In the last session of the day, our local pathologist, Dr. Eric Chan of Queen Mary Hospital spoke on ‘NMO IgG and Anti-MOG Ab, a Laboratory Perspective’.

Our council would like to express our deepest gratitude to all our local and overseas speakers for making this ASM a tremendously educational and successful one. We would also like to thank everyone for their participation.
