The 3rd HKMSS Annual Scientific Meeting was held on 15 Nov 2014 at the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel. This year, our society was honored to have two overseas speaker join us, including Prof. Vanda Lennon from the Mayo Clinic, USA; and Prof. Thomas Berger from the Innsbruck Medical University of Austria.

Autoimmune Mimics of Multiple Sclerosis

Prof. Lennon, who discovered the anti-aquaporin-4 antibody responsible for neuromyelitis optica, enlightened us on ‘Autoimmune Mimics of Multiple Sclerosis’.

Assessing the Long-term Benefits and Risks of DMTs for Multiple Sclerosis

Prof. Berger then shared with us his experience on ‘Assessing the Long-term Benefits and Risks of DMTs for Multiple Sclerosis’.

Neuromyelitis Optica: What You Need to Know in 2014

Three of our council members also gave talks during ‘Important Issues in Management of Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders Symposium’. Dr. KL Shiu updated us on ‘Neuromyelitis Optica: What You Need to Know in 2014’.

Dr. WK Cheng highlighted ‘Liver Impairment in Multiple Sclerosis’. 

Socioeconomic Impact of Multiple Sclerosis on Chinese Patients in Hong Kong

Dr. Richard Li then shared the results of a recent HKMSS patient survey, titled ‘Socioeconomic Impact of Multiple Sclerosis on Chinese Patients in Hong Kong’.

Our ASM would not have been a success without our honorable overseas speakers, council members and the enthusiastic participants, all of which deserve a big thank-you from our Council. Following this ASM, Dr. KL Shiu succeeded Dr. KH Chan as the next President of the HKMSS. Our society would like to thank Dr. Chan’s leadership from 2012 to 2014.
