Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders (NMOSD): Treatment Update
Our society was honoured to welcome Prof. Dean Wingerchuk from the Mayo Clinic, who gave us an in-depth elaboration on the latest revision on the Wingerchuk Criteria for Neuromyelitis Optica in the pre-conference talk held on 13 November. He has also shared with us the latest treatment advancement for NMO and its spectrum disorders during the MS Symposium of the conference. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening experience to learn from very man who developed the Wingerchuk Criteria. We hope that our participants have gained a better understanding of the criteria’s revision, and earned greater confidence in its application.
Treating Multiple Sclerosis in the 21st Century
Apart from Prof. Wingerchuk, we were also honoured to have the presence of other overseas giants during the MS symposium of the Congress, which included Prof. Gavin Giovannoni from the Blizard Institute of London, who gave us an overview on the latest MS treatment, in particular the impact of reintroducing the drug Cladribine to the market.
Emerging Insights in Multiple Sclerosis: Re-evaluation of Treatment Algorithm
Prof. Mark Freedman from the University of Ottawa, Canada, enlightened us on how interpreting drug study data from a different perspective could yield new insights, with an emphasis on Teriflunomide, the recently available oral agent in Hong Kong.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Multiple Sclerosis
We would also like to thank Dr. Jill Abrigo, our local radiologist from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, who shared with us her expertise in the MRI features of MS.
