On 18 September 2026, the HKMSS organized a roundtable dinner symposium titled ‘Treatment De-escalation in Multiple Sclerosis: A Case-based Discussion’.
Our invited overseas speaker was Prof. Enrique Alvarez from the University of Colorado of Denver, USA. Following the opening remarks by our immediate past president, Dr. Stephen Cheng, Prof. Alvarez gave a compreshensive overview of the natural disease progress of MS across age, and how treatment goals change depending on the specific needs of MS patients at different stages of their life.
As a neuroimmunologist who sees a large number of MS patients on a daily basis, Prof. Alvarez shared with us his personal experience in selecting therapeutic strategies for different scenarios. His complemented his talk with several real cases which he encountered in practice, all with challenging clinical dilemmas, and engaged the floor in an enlightening discussion.
We would like to thank Prof. Alvarez for his talk, and thank all of our attendees for making the session a fruitful one!
