After its inauguration in May 2012, the HKMSS held its first Annual Scientific Meeting on 24 November 2012 at the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel. Dr. Patrick Li, the President of the Hong Kong College of Physicians, who was also the Honorary Fellow of the HKMSS, give the opening remarks, which was followed by a welcome message by Dr. KH Chan, our President.

Neuomyelitis Optica in Hong Kong Chinese

Dr. Chan then gave the first talk in the ‘Central Nervous System Inflammatory Demyelinating Disorders among Asians’ session, titled ‘Neuomyelitis Optica in Hong Kong Chinese’.

Diagnosis and Treatment of MS and NMO and Taiwan

Prof. Ching-Piao Tsai from Taiwan enlightened us in the second topic ‘Diagnosis and Treatment of MS and NMO and Taiwan’. The session was chaired by Dr. Patrick Li and Dr. Edmund Woo.

Cognitive Impairment in MS: Commoner Than You Think

In the second session, ‘Interesting Topics in Multiple Sclerosis’, which was chaired by Dr. KK Lau and Dr. SH Ng, our Vice-president Dr. KL Shiu explored cognitive impairment in MS, titled ‘Commoner Than You Think’.

Pregnancy and Multiple Sclerosis

Dr. Winnie Wong, as a female MS specialist, gave her insights on ‘Pregnancy and Multiple Sclerosis’.

Advances in Management of Multiple Sclerosis

In the last session, ‘Advancement in Treatments of Multiple Sclerosis’, chaired by Dr. Jonas Yeung and Dr. WK Cheng, Dr. TH Tsoi updated us on the ‘Advances in Management of Multiple Sclerosis’, which was followed by a closing remarks from Dr. KL Shiu.

Our society’s 1st ASM has been a great success thanks to our honorable overseas guest speaker,  council members and the participation of our local neurologists and associates.
