On 15 Oct 2016, the 5th Annual Scientific Meeting of the HKMSS was successfully held at the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel.
MS and NMOSD in the UK
Our overseas guest speaker, Dr. Jacqueline Palace from John Radcliffe Hospital UK, enlightened us on the ‘UK 10-year risk-sharing scheme data’, which illustrated the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of MS treatment in the UK. She has also shared with us her experience on ‘Seronegative NMO spectrum disorders’, which encompassed a proportion of subjects positive for anti-MOG, a test which is not readily available in Hong Kong yet.
Advances in Neuroimaging for MS and related disorders
Dr. KH Chan of our council gave us a comprehensive update on the ‘Advances in Neuroimaging for MS and related disorders’.
Interactive local case sharing
In the interactive case discussion, council members Dr. Jessica Li and Dr. Stephen Cheng used local cases to highlight the obstacles and challenges in MS management, which ranged from the diagnosis, choice of disease-modifying treatment, management of treatment side effects, treatment escalation and symptomatic treatment of MS and NMO.
We would like to thank Dr. Palace and all of our participants for making this a successful 5th ASM for us. Following this ASM, Dr. Winnie Wong succeeded Dr. KL Shiu as the next President of the HKMSS. Our society would like to thank Dr. Shiu’s leadership from 2014 to 2016.
