World MS Day Event

‘A life story of MS and Music’ – Piano Recital & Sharing by Olga Bobrovnikova

19 May 2018

The Helena May

In celebration of the World MS Day 2018, which was themed #bringinguscloser, the Hong Kong Multiple Sclerosis Society organized a special event, titled ‘A Life Story of MS and Music’, which featured a piano recital and sharing by Ms Olga Bobrovnikova, a Russian concert pianist who is also an MS patient herself.  Having lived and fought MS for over 20 years, Olga never gave up, and used music to help herself understand how the brain works. Through her music, she expressed her strong passion and determination, and our society was honored to have her share her energy with us through this ground-breaking evening of art and music.

Held at the historic venue, the Helena May, our guests included professionals, representatives from the HKNMDA, MS patients and their carers, all of whom are important key players in the local MS community. After an opening speech by our chairlady Dr. Winnie Wong, followed by the keynote speech of our guest of honour, Dr. Patrick Li, the evening began with a guest performance by renowned local sand art painter, Mr. Hoi Chiu, who brought us through the ‘Journey of MS’ with his amazing skills. Olga then took the stage, and led us all through a delicately woven tapestry of beautiful music, channeling her positive energy to every single person in the room.  Olga also demonstrated to the audience the daily exercises she practices to keep her dexterity. The event was then concluded with a closing remark from our vice chairman, Dr. Richard Li, who also contributed his art in the form of photos for the program book and the projector slides.

The event would not have been a success without the great efforts of everyone involved in the project. The council would like to thank Olga, Hoi Chiu, Siu Ping, who contributed his beautiful oil paintings for decoration and also drew a lovely portrait of Olga, the HKNMDA, Novartis, Halo PR and everyone who participated for making this a truly remarkable night!
