On 16 June 2021, the HKMSS organized a hybrid scientific symposium titled ‘Shifting the Paradigm – The Evolving Role of Anti-B lymphocytes in Multiple Sclerosis’, which was broadcasted as a live webinar but also included physical attendance by our council members and selected guests at the Sheraton Hotel.
Chaired by Dr. WK Cheng, our president, the talk was given by Prof. Martin Weber from the University of Gottingen, Germany. Prof. Weber gave a comprehensive review and new understanding of how the human immune system is involved in CNS demyelinating diseases such as MS, NMOSD and MOGAD. While he focused on how the paradigm has shifted from T-cell therapy to B-cell therapy, he pointed out that recent advances shifted to include T-cell targetting as well.
Dr. Stephen Cheng of our council then shared a brief local case to seek Prof. Weber’s advice, which was followed by Q&A section from the floor and online participants.
We would like to thank Prof. Weber for his talk and all our participants for joining our first hybrid scientific symposium!
